In school;
I was so cool,
I knew that I couldn’t crease ’em;
My friends couldn’t afford ’em,
Four stripes on their adidas;

The exact adidas quote could be taken completely out of context if you have never heard the song before. Essentially, Wing$ by Macklemore is a song about the perils a youth faces on the outside looking in at what has become known as “sneakerhead culture”. Macklemore speaks about having a pair of Jordans (and his friend who was killed for his) while those around him wore what resembled an adidas sneaker but has four stripes; commonly seen on bargain-bin footwear across the US. Even with a Jordan Brand endorsement deal, the Seattle rapper still finds time to throw on a fresh pair of the adidas Mutombo. This song made the Air Max list I did in September in this same format.
