While Black History Month/ Martin Luther King Jr. Day shoes existed before 2009 the Kobe 4 brought them onto the hardwood and into the mainstream. Number one on our list is actually dedicated to MLK more so than to the entire month of February and without them none of these other hoops shoes would be possible. The Kobe 4s are one of the most comfortable shoes of all time and started the low-cut basketball shoe trend. These are often referred to as the “Gold Mambas” because of the golden snakeskin pattern on the ankle, so they’re not explicitly MLK/BHM shoes. Kobe wore this pair on Martin Luther King Day back in 2009 and they were so popular Nike Basketball decided to make an entire line based around the holiday.
