While Michael Jordan was still pursuing a life in professional baseball, Tinker Hatfield went to work on the Air Jordan 10. This was the first Air Jordan created that with no plan on MJ wearing in the NBA and he actually had very little input into the design of this model. Regardless Tinker still put plenty of effort into the design. The Air Jordan 10 once again featured a new lacing system on premium leather. A graphic padded collar and heel tab are also key elements of the AJ10. One the outsole many of MJ’s career basketball acheivement were added, paying homage to his time in the NBA. Further proving the shift in focus along with a run of normal Chicago Bulls colors the shoe was released in a five city pack done in colors for the Chicago, Orlando, New York, Sacramento and Seattle. Midway through the NBA season and thanks to a MLB lockout Jordan decided to un-retire and made the official statement, “I’m back.” The fact that MJ never gave final approval of the design was evident when after he returned they revised the toebox to make it one panel rather then have a toe guard. With his original #23 retired in the Chicago rafters Jordan played as the #45 for the rest of the season (his baseball number). Nine days after returning Jordan scored 55 points in Madison Square Garden and helped the Bulls into the playoffs where they fell to the Orlando Magic.
