Let go back to the beginning. The Peter Moore-designed Air Jordan 1 is the shoe that sparked a basketball sneaker revolution. MJ’s legendary line started when he rocked this pair of non-regulation sneakers onto the NBA hardwood in September of 1985. The NBA commissioner at the time, David Stern, claimed the kicks didn’t meet the on-court dress code and eventually banned them by October. Prior to that, His Airness was wrist-slapped for $5,000 by the NBA whenever he stepped on the court in them. Luckily, Nike saw an opportunity for some infamous marketing and paid every one of those fines.
