Community Voices: our March 2022 support
On June 3rd, 2020 we took a stand against racial injustice and published our initial statement in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the Black community. Each week since, we’ve worked to ensure we’re making strides in the way that we affect change in our local community. Our goal is to become a stronger ally, provide a greater platform that can help highlight individuals and organizations working towards change, and make monetary contributions to those organizations.
Each week, we welcome a new guest on our Community Voices series on Instagram, who helps us dive into important topics affecting the community. We then profile a charitable organization of their choosing that is making an impact, and make a donation to help fund their efforts.
To date, we’ve featured almost 100 guests – which means almost 100 organizations funded – and we’re proud to keep the momentum going.
Below are some of the amazing guests who have joined us so far in March 2022:
Episode 93: Wesley Snipes
The film legend joins us to chat about how his time in art school influenced his career, how a missed opportunity in Beat Street motivated him to start doing commercials, broadway & daytime tv work. He also tells us about the significance of dance & martial arts, and how he believes being multi disciplined can ground you in all things. This belief inspires his community work with @newbreedlifearts.
Episode 94: Jennifer Mika
In honor of International Women’s Day, we welcome one of the faces of our #NikeNeedItNow campaign. Jennifer comes through to chat with us about what #IWD means to her, as well as the importance of prioritizing mental health. She’ll also tell us about the @asianmentalhealthcollective, and the amazing work they’re doing to de-stigmatize mental health within the Asian community.
Episode 95: Paige Audrey-Marie Hurd
The Power Book II: Ghost star joins us to help continue our conversation around Women’s History Month. Paige chats with us about her career path, the importance of empowering women, and the incredible work that @specialolympics is doing.
