Nobody likes updating their resume. But it’s gotta be a little more fun when your resume looks like this:

  • Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (Class of 2017)
  • Seven-time NBA All-Star
  • Seven-time All-NBA selection
  • Two-time NBA scoring champion
  • NBA Most Improved Player (2001)
  • Jersey #1 retired by Qingdao Eagles

In case you couldn’t put your finger on it, that’s Tracy McGrady’s career we’re talking about.

The ninth overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, T-Mac blossomed into one of the most exciting scorers of his era during stints with Toronto, Orlando and Houston.

It was with the Rockets that he posted perhaps the most memorable performance of his career, scoring 13 points in the final 33 seconds against San Antonio to capture an unlikely comeback victory.

And he performed all those on-court heroics in a succession of adidas kicks, ranging from the Top Ten 2000 in high school to some underappreciated models like the Silk, the KB8 II, the Lithicon and the Mad Handle. The folks over at Sneaker History have a terrific breakdown of T-Mac’s footwear evolution.

T-Mac’s career was stunted by injury, and he bounced around a few teams before his eventual retirement in 2013 as a San Antonio Spur.

But his legacy lives on, not only in the broadcast booth as analyst for ESPN, but in the retro basketball sneaker game as well.

The Brand with the Three Stripes is now throwing it back to the 2000s with the re-release of the adidas T-Mac 2 Restomod, a term from the automotive industry that refers to a vehicle combining classic style with new technology.

The T-Mac 2 is a true blast from the recent past. The leather uppers feature embossed branding on the lateral sides and heel tabs, while perforated paneling cutting from mid-foot across the toebox allows for breathability in the heat of the action. Black/Blue and White/Blue colorways are a nod to McGrady’s Orlando Magic uniforms.

Underpinning it all is adidas’s proprietary Bounce midsole cushioning for maximum response and stability, whether you’re on the court or the street.

You can add some underrated retro hoops heat to your rotation when the adidas T-Mac 2 arrives in Men’s sizing at finishline.com in February. Keep it locked for further release date details.

We’ve recently partnered with Afterpay, giving you the option to cop now and pay over time. Take advantage and build the closet of your dreams.
