Premium textures adorn the exclusive Women’s Air Jordan 1 Retro High ‘Satin Red’

Ever since stylist Aleali May’s groundbreaking Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Viotech’ dropped in 2018, Jumpman has committed to creating more for women in the sneaker world than just “make it smaller, and in pink.”

May’s collaborative Viotech and her (admittedly pink) Jordan 6 Retro have grabbed the public’s attention, as have Melodi Ehsani’s takes on the Jordan 1 Mid and Jordan OG SP. Those releases seem to have encouraged the brand to think outside the box for its women’s designs.

The success of the women’s-only AJ1 Retro High ‘Obsidian/Blue Chill’ in 2019 and this summer’s Retro 1 High ‘Tie Dye’ certainly proved that creative use of colors and materials is the way forward, and a forthcoming release pushes that thinking even further afield.

Adorned in the unmistakable black, red and white tones synonymous with the Jordan line, the latest Women’s Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Satin Red’ utilizes premium materials to create a highly textured and luxurious take on the classic shoe.

If it looks familiar, it is: the AJ1 Retro High ‘Satin Black Toe’ that dropped this time last year featured similar materials and color blocking.

This time, though, the color scheme switches red and black from heel to toe and vice versa. True to its name, the ‘Satin Red’ also incorporates satin overlays and faux snakeskin detailing on the swoosh, heel counter and collars.

Jordan Brand has deployed the faux snakeskin before, most recently on a multicolor women’s-sized AJ1 low and a pair of Jordan 11 Retro Lows last year. The texture is a staple with high-end sneaker customizers like The Sneaker Surgeon and The Heyyman, who use genuine reptile skin in their bespoke creations.

Regardless of whether the snakeskin came from a real snake, this beautiful pair of Jordan 1s in iconic colors is a must-cop heading into the cooler months of 2020.
