Game of the Week: Louisville vs Kentucky
Sports is all about rivalries, and that fact rings truest when it comes to college basketball. So, if you’re looking for a game to catch this week, the one to watch is between in-state rivals, the Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats on December 29.
The Louisville Cardinals are among college basketball’s elite and they’re here to stay. Lead by their junior SG, Russ Smith, who’s putting 19 points a game, their sitting atop the Big East Conference standings, with their only loss being dealt by a formidable Duke roster.
For the Kentucky Wildcats, they’re experiencing an unexpected down season with three losses notched into their belts only 11 games into the season. The John Calipari-formula is looking to be crumbling, as he is known for recruiting the top high school prospects in the country and translating it into wins, with most of his freshman stars in recent history, turning pro after one season in the collegiate ranks. Although they seem to be undergoing growing pains, behind the leadership of Archie Goodwin and Alex Poythress, look for Wildcats to mature as the season wears on and pull things together when it’s time to gun for the NCAA Tournament.
For this matchup of rivals, the Louisville Cardinals are the more polished and poised team compared to the Kentucky Wildcats. Look for Louisville to beat Kentucky by a comfortable margin to make a statement across the state and the nation.
