For the 26th addition to the Air Jordan lineup Jordan Brand called in the big guns. Longtime Air Jordan designer Tinker Hatfield worked with Nike design veteran Tom Luedecke to create the Air Jordan 2011. Over the years the Air Jordan lineup has featured a number of different cushioning options. Recently the addition of interchangeable pods was something that was used. However for the Air Jordan 2011 for the first time ever the shoes were packaged with the ability to swap out midsoles. Each pair had the choice of either “Quick” cushioning, which was a midsole with both heel and forefoot Zoom Air, or “Explosive, a ¾ length Air cushioning. This new cushioning option allowed the wearer to choose what type of game they might wanted to play and the type of cushioning best accustomed to that style. With the cushioning side decided on the focus was on the upper of the shoe. Once again something brand new was introduced. Never before been featured on a performance basketball shoe, handcrafted Patina leather. Each shoe is finished with a hand burnishing process, ensuring that each shoe is unique. MJ gave the analogy of a warrior choosing his weapon before going into battle when referring to the player picking which insole to use, so not surprisingly a “Warriors” pack was released along with a “Year of the Rabbit” colorway, made special since it was MJ’s Chinese Zodiac.
