Considering it’s almost been 20 years since Michael Jordan hung up the sneakers (professionally, at least) for the final time, it’s wild to think that he’s as iconic as ever from a brand standpoint.

Since the mid-1980s, there have been few bigger names in sports than MJ’s, and His Airness has been an absolute advertiser’s dream for more than four decades.

It’s easy to rattle off memorable Jordan commercials and endorsements, even if you look past his own sneaker brands, from the beautifully dramatic Chevy Blazer ads in his rookie year to the unmistakable Gatorade “Like Mike” campaigns.

Even the Golden Arches is part of the Jordan mythology. For almost 30 years, until last summer, no celebrity had had their own collaborative McDonald’s meal until the fast food chain inked a deal with Travis Scott.

The McJordan meal — a 1992 collab featuring a Quarter Pounder with bacon and barbecue sauce with a side of fries and a drink — was the last time a celebrity’s name was used in conjunction with a McD’s menu item.

MJ’s McDonald’s commercial was even better than the meal. It featured a game of HORSE between Jordan and Larry Bird, with the winner getting to eat the loser’s food in front of him.

What’s all this got to do with anything? Well, the forthcoming Air Jordan 1 retro release bears a similar color scheme to the restaurant that made the Big Mac a household name. (That segue was a stretch, I know.)

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Light Fusion Red’ eschews the frequent requests for OG colorways in favor of a bright summertime feel.

White tumbled leather uppers sit under funky Light Fusion Red overlays, with Laser Orange decorating the Swooshes and collars. A black outsole completes the look.
