Make your rotation soar with the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘University Blue’

“North Carolina: First in flight.”

That’s what it reads on license plates and in history books in the Tar Heel State.

Ever since December of 1903 when Orville and Wilbur Wright made history with the first manned, powered flight, on the beach at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina has been associated with separating man and solid ground.

So it’s simply an incredible twist of fate, don’t you think, that another man in the state’s history is also associated with high-flying feats?

We’re talking, of course, about Michael Jordan, a man who made an entire career out of soaring above the competition both literally and figuratively.

Jordan grew up in Wilmington, a couple hundred miles south of where those Wright Brothers took flight, and he went to school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a freshman he sunk the game-winning bucket to seal the NCAA championship for the Tar Heels, and from there his legend grew.

North Carolina has played a major part of Jordan’s legacy, even to this day through his ownership of the Charlotte Hornets.

It shines through in another part of Jordan’s legacy too — his sneaker line. The eye-pleasing shade known as “University Blue” has come to life not only on Jumpman silhouettes but across the Nike family from Air Force 1 to Zoom Rev 2.

We’ve seen University Blue applied to a handful of Air Jordan 1 retro releases over the past couple of years, from the Off-White version that dropped in 2018 to 2019’s Obsidian/UNC colorway and the ‘UNC Chicago’ version from the Fearless collection.

Now, with Easter and Spring creeping up on us, Jordan Brand has unveiled another gorgeous edition of the AJ 1 featuring those sky-blue tones.

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘University Blue’ draws on the iconic ‘Chicago’ color-blocking to apply those classic notes in a new way.

The overlays, collars, lace guide, heel counters and outsoles are dressed in the namesake University Blue, contrasting the white leather upper and black Swoosh. The black Air Jordan logo stamped into the collar features the best wings to come out of North Carolina since the Wright Brothers’ flying machine.
