This Champion x MTV collab will have you reminiscing about the golden days of hip-hop
Back in the day, before the internet allowed us to take a video tour through a rapper’s shoe collection or wardrobe, our options for getting a glimpse into the lifestyles, and style styles, of the rich and the famous were limited.
But in 1988 all that changed when Yo! MTV Raps hit the airwaves and brought hip-hop out of regional strongholds like New York, Houston, Compton and Miami and into living rooms around America. The hip-hop revolution was televised.
The music videos, interviews and live performances on Yo! MTV Raps let the whole world see just how their favorite rappers were ‘fitted out, and what brands they were rocking on stage and on camera. Fun fact: Eric B. and Rakim’s “Follow The Leader” was the first video ever played on the U.S. version of Yo! MTV Raps.
One of those iconic brands, whose threads transitioned seamlessly from sportswear to streetwear, was Champion.
Now, more than 30 years after Run-DMC hosted the pilot episode of Yo! MTV Raps, the all-American athletic apparel company is collaborating with MTV on a hot, 90s hip-hop-inspired collection that will take you back to the days of Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan and NWA.
And who better to showcase this funky-fresh Champion collection than the champ himself, Jadakiss? There’s plenty of fly pieces to fit out the whole crew.
Freshen up your summer rotation with the Champion x MTV collection, available at FinishLine.com on 6/25.
