The Answer (and a few other notables)

1996 – ’96 was an exciting year in Philly. In ’95, the Sixers selected UNC star Jerry Stackhouse with the third pick in the draft. Stack was proclaimed by many to be the next Jordan, which obviously didn’t pan out. In ’96, the Sixers won the lottery and selected Allen Iverson, the super-talented guard from Georgetown. Iverson fit in perfectly in Philly, and he and Stackhouse gelled well together. After Iverson, the rest of the draft class wasn’t half bad. Marcus Camby went to the Raptors at #2. Shareef Abdur-Raheem went to the Grizzlies at #3. The Bucks picked Stephon Marbury and then traded him to Minnesota for Ray Allen (the fifth pick). The Celtics took Antoine Walker at #6. Villanova star Kerry Kittles went to the Nets at #8. The Hornets picked Kobe Bryant thirteenth, then traded him to the Lakers. Steve Nash fell all the way to fifteenth. Jermaine O’Neal went seventeenth. Derek Fisher went twenty-fourth. Needless to say, it was one of the deepest, most talented draft classes ever.
