Throwback Thursday: Top Ten NBA Lottery Moments

LeBron, Darko, Melo

2003 – Even though this draft class had possibly the most talent ever, it also had the most obvious #1 pick in the history of the NBA. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected their savior, LeBron James when they won the lottery in ‘03. What was peculiar about the next selection was the Piston’s decision to select Serbian star Darko Milicic at number 2. The Pistons could have selected NCAA champion Carmelo Anthony. Or Marquette star Dwayne Wade. Or even the promising forward from Georgia Tech, Chris Bosh. But, the Pistons went with Darko, and it was a decision they’d regret for a long time. Milicic didn’t play much the two and a half seasons he was in Detroit, and was then traded to the Magic in 2006. He is known more as the butt of jokes than his play on the court.
