Throwback Thursday: Top Ten NBA Lottery Moments
Penny (and trade for C-Webb)
1993 – One year after selecting Shaquille O’Neal with the #1 pick, magic was in the air again, as Orlando landed the top pick once more. They had the lowest odds, but came out on top. Rumor had it that O’Neal and Memphis State star guard Penny Hardaway had bonded on the set of the movie Blue Chips. The Magic went on to pick Michigan’s Chris Webber, but then pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Warriors (who picked Penny third). The Magic would trade C-Webb to the Warriors in exchange for Penny and three future first-round picks. Shaq and Penny would become one of the greatest duos in the NBA for a few years, but were never able to win the Chip.
