In his final year at Tulsa, Largent would be selected as an All-American. Finishing with 1,000 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Despite those stats the Houston Oilers took him in the 4th round with their 117th pick. Largent only played four preseason games in an Oiler jersey before almost being cut, but was instead traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a 1977 8th round pick.

Steve Largent spent all 13 years of his career playing in the Pacific Northwest, racking up seven Pro Bowl selections, the first Seahawk to achieve that feat. When he retired in 1989, he took the NFL record for most receptions in a career (819), most receiving yards in a career (13,089), and most career touchdown receptions (100). He was elected into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1995.
