10. Sebastian Janikowski
Team: Oakland Raiders
Round: 1st, 17th OVR
Even at 17th overall, no one expects a special teams player to be taken. Only 16 players have been taken up to that point, so there’s still a great amount of talent left in the draft. Given, Janikowski may be some of the best kicking talent we have seen in the NFL in a very long time. He has been in the league for 15 years now and with a career made FG percentage of 80.2%, only posting 5 seasons of kicking below 80%.
When it comes to the draft, any off-field incidents can be concerning to a team, and Janikowski was no choir boy at Florida State University. During his time there, he had major success on the field, holding the 3rd highest point total in school history at 324 points in only three years, but that did not come without its “extra curricular activities”. During his time at FSU, Janikowski, was involved in multiple situations where the police were called, even going as far as to allegedly bribing a police officer to let his friend go after being detained.
After all this, the Oakland Raiders still took an early chance on the big leg of Janikowski in the first round and it has been paying off for over a decade now.
