1.) 1988- Michael Jordan- Air Jordan III- Dunk Contest/All Star Game
It started on Saturday afternoon and it finished on Sunday afternoon. Two great All Star Weekend moments in two great All Star sneakers. On Saturday, in perhaps one of the greatest Dunk Contest duels ever, Jordan and ‘Nique squared off head to head. Then Jordan went back for a second time to take off from the foul line. Jordan debuted the Air Jordan III that day for the first time opening eyes all over. The rest is history…
On Sunday, as unofficial host of the Game, Jordan exploded for 40 points wearing another pair of Air Jordan IIIs, this time in black, the first time he’d wear black shoes for the All Star Game. His modest 40 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks, 3 assists line got him MVP honors. Nike also introduced us to Mars Blackmon in their new ad campaign that day.
The 1988 All Star Weekend was perhaps THE most iconic when it comes to the exploits of Jordan, the shoes, and how those shoes have impacted the culture of sneakers since then.
