3) The Boxtrolls Auction
Nike does not often directly auction sneakers for charity; the most notable was the Air Mag auction for the Michael J. Fox Foundation (which will be done again next Spring). In coordination with the movie “The Boxtrolls”, Nike’s headline designer Tinker Hatfield designed a Roshe Mid based on the movie characters, and a limited run was auctioned directly to the public on eBay to benefit the Adoption Exchange Association. Prices shot up to average almost $500 per pair when the feverish last-second bidding ended, and once again the Roshe was used to help those in need.
