“The Glove” has become just as commonly used to describe Gary Payton’s shoes as it is for his smothering style of defense. With that kind of notoriety, it’s hard to imagine a GP shoe released without the classic “glove” design, but the Nike Sonic Flight delivers on a perfect fusion between two OG Gary Payton kicks (Nike Air Zoom GP and Nike Air Zoom Flight “The Glove”).
The front oval gradient details are borrowed from the Air Zoom GP, and the back features the ankle supporting “monkey paw” design that commonly peeks through when people wear the Air Zoom Flight Gloves half zipped. GP was known for his relentless defense, so these shoes are definitely designed to perform. With a Zoom Air through the midsole and an Air Sole unit in the heel, these sneakers offer plush cushioning for soft footfalls as you pound up and down the court.
We saw the first pair of these drop a few weeks ago in a classic Super Sonic colorway, and now we get a clean black and white model that will match with pretty much anything on and off the court.
