Last weekend showed us just how quickly fortunes can change in the college football landscape. Baylor was trounced and overwhelmed on both sides of the ball by Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Oregon showed that it still hasn’t recovered from the Stanford loss being thoroughly dominated from the outset by Arizona. Aside from the conference championship games, this week coming up may be the most meaningful of the entire season. Both Auburn and Michigan can bust some BCS dreams on Saturday afternoon, and we recommend you don’t miss a single minute of it.
Ohio State has one last stop in their quest to finish their second straight regular season undefeated. They still have a Big 10 title game looming, but they cannot overlook a very talented Michigan team. The Wolverine offense has been nearly non-existent as of late, but that doesn’t mean the weapons to get the win do not exist. Hosting this game in Ann Arbor will be a big boost for the Michigan seniors playing their last game in one of college football’s greatest stadiums.
The Golden Domers will travel to The Farm for this showdown with a Cardinal team that has suffered two excruciatingly close losses this season. Stanford has lost two games by a combined 9 points, so they are much better than their ranking suggests, even at #8 nationally. The Notre Dame defense has been porous all year long, so look for the Cardinal to go to the run early and often and wear the Irish down. In the end, it might not be close at all, so look for Stanford to run away with this one early.
With the exception of the debacle against Florida St., Clemson has looked like a powerhouse all season long. Down in The Palmetto State though, the battle for state supremacy has never been so hotly contested. The Gamecocks have been on a roller coaster of a season battling through injuries, yet find themselves ranked in the Top 10 of the BCS . This game will likely be decided by quarterback play and both teams have great ones. Tajh Boyd of Clemson and Connor Shaw of South Carolina will be the deciding factors in this one down in Columbia, but look for the Tigers to pull away late.
#1 Alabama travels to The Plains to take on their heated rival and nationally ranked, #4 Auburn. No one could have predicted this high of a match-up at the beginning of the season when Auburn was coming off their most embarrassing season in recent memory. Up tempo, no huddle offenses give Alabama coach Nick Saban fits, and that is exactly the system the Auburn offense runs. The Tide defense will be tested early and often as they look to keep their ranking atop the BCS in tact. Auburn has had a fortunate year, and it’s our prediction that those fortunes will continue in trying to knock off the top team in the land.
The battle for bragging rights in LA will be settled on Saturday in the Memorial Coliseum. Both teams have been through an incredible season full of off-the-field distractions, as well as some heart breaking losses. There is no doubt this will be a down-to-the wire battle like previous years. This game is always played tough, full of hard hits, and will come down to the defense that makes the bigger plays.
