For NBA franchises, prepping for the playoffs includes sitting superstars and acquiring free agent veterans to add some roster depth. For sneaker companies, the playoffs mark the opportunity to release a slew of kicks for NBA stars to rock on the court, as their way of making a “playoff push.”

adidas is often leading the charge or never too far behind when it comes to seizing prime opportunities as they arise, so it’s no surprise that they’re gunning full speed ahead with a new silhouette from their basketball sneaker line. Dubbed the “CrazyQuick“, it’s adidas’s basketball rendition of their namesake football counterpart.

While RGIII is their gridiron representative of the sneaker, Avery Bradley and Iman Shumpert are carrying the torch on the hardwood in the NBA Playoffs, sporting the de-cleated footwear.

Similar to its cousin, the adidas CrazyLight, the CrazyQuick is an ultra-lightweight shoe equipped with SPRINTFRAME technology for added stability and a plush and a padded collar for extra comfort around the ankle.

With Avery Bradley and Iman Shumpert going head-to-head this postseason wearing the same shoes, we’ll get a double dose of seeing the CrazyQuick in action. So, as you’re watching the Knicks-Celtics series, keep an eye out for the CrazyQuick‘s on court, and be sure to stay tuned to FinishLine.com to know when this shoe is due to land.

Outside of Jordan Brand and Nike, not too many sneakers go away and are brought back from retirement. So it was a pleasant surprise when Dada decided that the Supreme CDubbz Hi was due for a comeback after 10 years on the retirement shelves.

Originally sported by Mr. CDubb himself (Chris Webber), the Supreme CDubbz Hi popped up on the scene with a mashup of materials, using leather, patent leather and a woodgrain pattern for a classy vibe and look.

Chris Webber might have been the most underrated and versatile power forward of all-time, with his signature sneaker the Supreme CDubbz Hi falling right in line with his playing style.

Chris Webber may not be able to come back to the hardwood, but his shoes are back for the first time in 10 years, so now’s the best time to score a pair because there’s no telling when we’ll see these again.

Welcome to Position Breakdown. In this new segment, we will look at each of the five positions for NBA players, and determine which five players have been rocking the best shoes so far this season. In this week’s first ever edition, we will take a look at the center position, so read on to see what players will be crowned with rocking the most heat.

DeMarcus Cousins has one of the most versatile sneaker rotations as far as NBA centers are concerned, and he has been seen rocking retros as well as newer performance models. What retro models have we seen this big man wear? Some of the top retro shoes have to be the Nike Zoom Flight V, and of course none other than the Air Jordan 11 “Concord”. In the area of performance models, Cousins has laced up in Nike KD V’s, Nike LeBron X’s, and Jordan CP3 VI’s.

Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies has also been rocking some heat this season, mostly in various colorways of the Nike Lunar Hyperdunks. He wore an all red pair of this shoe in honor of World Aids Day, and numerous ID versions featuring the Grizzlies colors. Surprising many, Marc also laced up in a pair of the Pink Nike Foamposite One, one of the hottest shoes of 2012.

Kendrick Perkins is also definitely worthy of making the list, thanks to his extensive Nike iD collection. We’ve seen Perkins rocking personal ID colorways of his teammate’s signature shoe, the Nike KD V. In honor of Black History Month, Perkins also was seen wearing the Nike KD V “BHM” edition.

Roy Hibbert has thrown a few curve balls this season as well, wearing classic basketball retros that we all know and love. We’ve seen Hibbert on court wearing ID versions of the Nike Huarache 2K4, which many consider to be one of the best basketball shoes of all time. In addition, Hibbert also likes lacing up in different colorways of the Nike Hyperfuse 2012, all in Indiana Pacers inspired colorways.

Dwight Howard has his own signature shoe from adidas, the adidas D Howard Light, so fittingly he has been graced with many sweet colorways of these bad boys. From “Home” editions, to “Away” editions, and everything in between, we have seen Dwight in various colorways of his own signature.

So which one of these big fellas has rocked the most heat this season? So far, we have to give the title to DeMarcus Cousins. Nobody matches his versatility, although Marc Gasol has to come in at a close second because he has definitely thrown us some curve balls as well. For the third spot, we’d have to say Roy Hibbert takes the cake, where Kendrick Perkins and Dwight Howard tie it up for last place.

Whether you are the best hooper on the floor or not, you still want to look like you are. Usually, the most intimidating looking girl on the court is the one decked out in all the gear and accessories. If she’s not the most intimidating, at the very least, she’s the most fly, and that’s nothing to scoff at. So read on as we tell you about some great products available on Finishline.com that are sure to turn heads on the hardwood.

2012 was a crazy year for basketball sneakers, and we saw releases for everything from classic retros to the newest in new technology. Check out our list of the best basketball shoe releases of the year.

A best of 2012 list would not be complete without the Nike LeBron X. We fist saw images of this shoe during the Olympic games in London, and they started receiving a lot of good buzz right off the bat. As we expected from a LeBron signature, the shoe proved to be a high performer, equipped with a full-length Zoom Air unit and Nike+ enabled so you can track your stats.

The adidas D. Rose 3.0 also made our list of top basketball shoes, and they are undoubtedly the best D. Rose signature to date. Premium leathers used on the upper gives the shoes a high quality look, and technical elements such as SPRINTWEB and SPRINTFRAME gives them high quality performance to match.

Like the adidas D. Rose 3.0, Chris Paul’s new signature, the Jordan CP3 VI is quite possibly his best shoe yet as well. This shoe features an ultra lightweight Hyperfuse upper, and the low cut design coupled with Zoom Air cushioning makes them the ideal shoe for quick and agile basketball players.

When pictures of this shoe first surfaced, many people did not like the new high top design for this athlete’s signature shoe. However, upon release, the Nike KD V proved to be one of the best basketball shoes of 2012. It is the first shoe in KD’s line that features a visible Max Air unit, and also has a seamless Hyperfuse upper for maximum comfort.

You couldn’t have a best of 2012 basketball shoe list without at least one retro sneaker, and the Reebok Answer IV topped off our list. It was the most loved from the Answer line, and as soon as a release was rumored people were setting aside the money in their bank accounts. Both the Black/White pair and the White/Red/Grey pair will remain classic basketball sneakers for years to come, and everybody who picked up a pair this year will surely be thankful.

T-Mac’s back! Well, not exactly class, but his first signature sneaker is making a return to store shelves this month, so that’ll be the topic this in “Who Wore That 101″. Sit back, listen up and feel free to take notes.

Lesson One: Aside from Kobe Bryant, adidas hadn’t really dabbled in the signature sneaker game as much as its brand competitors, but landing a deal a with one the best players of the era in Tracy McGrady was definitely a huge statement made by adidas. adidas loves to show their stripes, so they didn’t hold anything back as they slapped the three stripes on either side of the T-Mac 1 and added some adidas flavor with a modified rubber shelltoe piece to the front.

Lesson Two: Why did adidas choose Tracy McGrady to rock these sneakers? At that point in time, you went for the best, the most athletic, versatile, and that man was T-Mac himself. The consummate professional, a relentless hardworking individual and the ultimate teammate, he was the example of what adidas wanted to be represented by.

Lesson Three: The T-Mac 1 is an important shoe in sneaker history, because it jumpstarted a long line of popular for adidas that were gobbled and snatched off shelves by fans of the star that wanted to ball like him. Built with incredibly durable materials and a futuristic design, this shoe was lightyears ahead of its time, much like Tracy McGrady was ahead of the competition.

If you’re writing the basketball history books, T-Mac’s name is on the front page, if not the cover. For the sneaker history book, the signature line gets its own chapter. For the final, let’s just say it may be an essay question. Class dismissed.

Alright class, this week we’re going to touch upon one of the most underrated and under-appreciated shoes that Nike had to offer back in the 90s. Sneaker aficionados like ourselves know all about the Nike Air 2 Strong, but that can’t be said about the casual shoe wearer, so without further adieu, take out your pen and pad and jot down a few things about this slept-on sneaker.

Lesson One: You can’t tell by the name, but the Nike Air 2 Strong is a descendant of Nike’s Force family. A quick gander through Nike’s basketball shoe lineage will tell you right away that a Force shoe is all about rugged durability. Engineered to withstand the rigors of the intense and tenacious big man on the basketball court, it’s no surprise that Nike went with a certain somebody to showcase this sneaker. And that brings us to Lesson Two.

Lesson Two: The 90s was the era of the true center, with most teams unified around a superstar big guy in the middle of it all, so who better to choose for the task of exemplifying being 2 Strong than David Robinson. With an MVP award, and multiple All-Star selections among other various awards, Robinson was truly a force to reckoned with in the league. David Robinson dominated the NBA, so it was only right that he wear a shoe that dominated the hardwood, and The Swoosh came through for the Admiral.

Lesson Three: Now we’re at why all of this is important, and the answer to that question is simple. Up until this point, big men were restricted to wearing a ridiculously high-top sneaker that ultimately lent itself to a restricted style of play, so to match Robinson’s versatile game, Nike had to break the mold. Wanting to keep the support of a high-top, the Air 2 Strong was trimmed down to a mid-cut and a foam/leather ankle wrap was added for a flexible range of motion that also provided support and stability.

The Nike Air 2 Strong was an amazing shoe that was a trailblazer, setting the stage for a number of diverse models to come after it. Think about it and take a look at the shoe that you ball in now. If there’s an inner lining that extends out of the shoe, chances are it inherited that trait from the Air 2 Strong. And that brings us to the end of this week’s session.

Any questions? Class dismissed.

Although we haven’t quite reached the halfway point in the NBA season, we’ve over the holiday hump, so teams are either coasting or looking to string together a good amount of wins before the All-Star break. In the second week of the new year, the NBA schedule has a top team taking on the squad that the basketball world loves to hate to love. Read up and find out this week’s game of the week below.

The San Antonio Spurs have been a top team for quite a while now, and it seems as though, as long as Tim Duncan and Tony Parker are on the roster, that won’t change any time soon. If they’re not at the top of the Western Conference, they’re usually hovering around those parts. This season is no exception as they’ve once again solidified their position among the elite teams in the league by sticking to their brand of basketball, maintaining the same core players while switching out the role-playing pieces as needed.

Normally, the same could be said about the LA Lakers, but this season’s record has been anything but normal. Although they’ve kept Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace in the fold, as well as adding superstar center Dwight Howard and two-time MVP Steve Nash, the Lakers’ output has been largely underwhelming. Despite that development, they’re still one of the top teams to watch, and with their star power, they look to be on the verge of stringing together some wins and getting back on top.

This matchup, on January 9, will take place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. Seeing as the Lakers will be on the road and will have played the Houston Rockets the previous night, we don’t expect them to fly away from San Antonio with the W. The chemistry that the Spurs have will overmatch the LA Lakers and their lack thereof.

Check out this week’s game, and also take a look at our Spurs and Lakers apparel to stock up on some of your favorite team’s gear.

You can’t talk about the 90s without making a reference to a certain kid from West Philadelphia sent to live with his rich relatives in sunny California. Apparently, the Fresh Prince made a strong impression on a young Derrick Rose, as he pays homage with a special head-turning colorway of his Rose 3.0. Featuring a predominantly neon green upper and royal blue stitching, this shoe is not only court-ready, but also swagger-proof.

Being the signature shoe of one of the NBA’s most explosive athletes, the Rose 3 is well up-to-the-task of delivering comfort, stability and responsiveness. A synthetic leather upper over the top keep these shoes lightweight, while adidas’ SPRINTFRAME construction within the midsole keeps you stable.

If this particular color combination proves to be too loud for your liking, the Rose 3 is also available in the traditional home and away colorways for a sleeker and conservative look. The “Home” edition features a smooth nubuck-like upper, with perforations revealing a red inner lining. The “Away” version outdoes it counterpart in the sleek department, dressed in an all black leather upper that’s suitable for on and off the court.

Be sure to check these out if you’re looking for a truly high-performance sneaker that’s been engineered to separate an MVP from the rest.

Nike took things to the next level when they gave full color blocking power to sneaker fanatics with the Nike LeBron X+. With so many eye-catching colorways set to release and the ability to create your own custom look with NIKEiD that’s just as technologically advanced as LeBron’s own PEs, there’s always a pair that will fit your style and wardrobe in an accessible fashion. However, that doesn’t mean Nike hasn’t designated a few exclusive hues for special releases and limited drops.

The “China Jade” colorway is the perfect example of this limited edition phenomenon, as it features a green upper that’s just slightly different enough from the NikeID option, and limited enough in its release, to warrant going the extra mile for a pair. Be sure to give this special colorway the once over, as well as the many diamond-related details that make LeBron’s latest signature so special. We dare you to say this colorway and the shoe’s many technological advances aren’t tempting to warrant picking up a pair. You never know when this colorway, or some of the others gracing the LeBron X+, may make it to shelves again.
