adidas is often leading the charge or never too far behind when it comes to seizing prime opportunities as they arise, so it’s no surprise that they’re gunning full speed ahead with a new silhouette from their basketball sneaker line. Dubbed the “CrazyQuick“, it’s adidas’s basketball rendition of their namesake football counterpart. 

While RGIII is their gridiron representative of the sneaker, Avery Bradley and Iman Shumpert are carrying the torch on the hardwood in the NBA Playoffs, sporting the de-cleated footwear. 

Similar to its cousin, the adidas CrazyLight, the CrazyQuick is an ultra-lightweight shoe equipped with SPRINTFRAME technology for added stability and a plush and a padded collar for extra comfort around the ankle.

With Avery Bradley and Iman Shumpert going head-to-head this postseason wearing the same shoes, we’ll get a double dose of seeing the CrazyQuick in action. It’s true that their purpose has changed a bit since back then. UCLA, Baylor, Notre Dame, Kansas, Louisville, and Cincinnati were the six (un)lucky teams to receive the newly designed uniforms, and they aren’t quite like anything else we’ve seen on the NCAA hardwood before.

Notre Dame, Kansas, and Cincinnati will be playing in the new adiZero sleeveless uniforms, which we have to admit look at least a little bit better than their short-sleeved counterparts, which UCLA, Baylor, and Louisville will be wearing.

All six uniforms feature a very loud Impact Camo print on the shorts, equipped with a stripe along the side featuring the school’s secondary color. The tops of all six uniforms are primarily solid, with Impact Camo print on the sleeves for the short-sleeved versions, and Impact Camo on the shoulders of the sleeveless versions.

Like most things so extreme, you are either going to love or hate these uniforms. Some might say they are unique, revolutionary, eye-catching, and modern, while others will say they are weird, uncomfortable, and just down right ugly.

However, we think everyone can agree that these new NCAA uniforms from adidas are nothing short of different, and if their purpose is to be noticed, well, they have certainly succeeded.

Reebok has been one of the brands that have picked up the digi-camo trend, and we have seen the print on shoes such as the Reebok Zig Escape. This is John Wall’s signature shoe from Reebok, and the digi-camo design perfectly reflects the aggressive yet stealthy style of play that Mr. Wall possess. If trail running shoes are more up your alley, Reebok also dropped a digi-camo colorway of the Reebok Zig Wild TR 2 Trail Running Shoes.

Reebok’s not the only brand that has picked up on the trend, and Nike has also dropped some great apparel with the digi-camo design scheme. The Nike Sublimated Men’s Running Shirt is offered in a variety of all over digi-camo prints in different colors, and it also comes in a short sleeve and long sleeve cut. For more everyday style, they also have dropped a sweet new graphic hoodie that features the digi-camo print, known as the Nike KO Camo Grid Training Hoodie.

If you happened to watch the NBA All Star Game that took place in Houston, you probably didn’t miss the bright green colored adidas shoes on the basketball court, which too featured a digi-camo print. The adidas Crazy Light 2 “All Star” features a mix of Green Zest and Vivid Green in their camo print, and they even put out the adidas Team Speed Impact Camo Crew Socks to match.

At the center of the mayhem is the Houston Galleria, where the adidases and Nikes of the world utilize the opportunity to showcase their latest innovations in footwear.

Finish Line’s store, located right in the heart of the mall, played host for the weekend bringing fans a custom NBA experience. There were arcade games, music, autograph sessions, and opportunities to snap a photo with icons such as John Wall of the Wizards, Iman Shumpert of the Knicks, Mo Beatz and DMC.

Before they hit the floor to greet the fans, we caught up with them for a quick Q and A session with questions directly from Finish Line’s Twitter account.

For you adi-heads out there, check out the Team Speed Crew Socks from adidas. Some say the Nike Elite Sock started this whole sock trend, and the spanking new Men’s Nike Sequalizer Basketball Crew Socks will surely keep the trend continuing. They too feature additional cushioning in areas of high impact, and they are composed of the Dri-FIT fabric to wick away sweat. Nike did give them a new design aesthetically however, and the stylish new pattern will give your outfits that extra pop that will have eyes glued to your feet.

A best of 2012 list would not be complete without the Nike LeBron X. We fist saw images of this shoe during the Olympic games in London, and they started receiving a lot of good buzz right off the bat. As we expected from a LeBron signature, the shoe proved to be a high performer, equipped with a full-length Zoom Air unit and Nike+ enabled so you can track your stats.

The adidas D. Rose 3.0 also made our list of top basketball shoes, and they are undoubtedly the best D. Rose signature to date. Premium leathers used on the upper gives the shoes a high quality look, and technical elements such as SPRINTWEB and SPRINTFRAME gives them high quality performance to match.

Like the adidas D. Rose 3.0, Chris Paul’s new signature, the Jordan CP3 VI is quite possibly his best shoe yet as well. This shoe features an ultra lightweight Hyperfuse upper, and the low cut design coupled with Zoom Air cushioning makes them the ideal shoe for quick and agile basketball players.

When pictures of this shoe first surfaced, many people did not like the new high top design for this athlete’s signature shoe. However, upon release, the Nike KD V proved to be one of the best basketball shoes of 2012. It is the first shoe in KD’s line that features a visible Max Air unit, and also has a seamless Hyperfuse upper for maximum comfort.

You couldn’t have a best of 2012 basketball shoe list without at least one retro sneaker, and the Reebok Answer IV topped off our list. It was the most loved from the Answer line, and as soon as a release was rumored people were setting aside the money in their bank accounts. Both the Black/White pair and the White/Red/Grey pair will remain classic basketball sneakers for years to come, and everybody who picked up a pair this year will surely be thankful.

Lesson One: Aside from Kobe Bryant, adidas hadn’t really dabbled in the signature sneaker game as much as its brand competitors, but landing a deal a with one the best players of the era in Tracy McGrady was definitely a huge statement made by adidas. adidas loves to show their stripes, so they didn’t hold anything back as they slapped the three stripes on either side of the T-Mac 1 and added some adidas flavor with a modified rubber shelltoe piece to the front.

Lesson Two: Why did adidas choose Tracy McGrady to rock these sneakers? At that point in time, you went for the best, the most athletic, versatile, and that man was T-Mac himself. The consummate professional, a relentless hardworking individual and the ultimate teammate, he was the example of what adidas wanted to be represented by.

Lesson Three: The T-Mac 1 is an important shoe in sneaker history, because it jumpstarted a long line of popular for adidas that were gobbled and snatched off shelves by fans of the star that wanted to ball like him. Built with incredibly durable materials and a futuristic design, this shoe was lightyears ahead of its time, much like Tracy McGrady was ahead of the competition.

If you’re writing the basketball history books, T-Mac’s name is on the front page, if not the cover. For the sneaker history book, the signature line gets its own chapter. For the final, let’s just say it may be an essay question. Class dismissed.
