August has been a pretty busy month for Jordan Brand drops, and Sport Blue has been a pretty common theme amongst releases. Perhaps none bigger than the highly anticipated Jordan 6’s that are dropping at the end of the month, but the 14’s definitely held their own with a well-received release in Sport blue. The 14’s are a bit of an unsung hero in the legendary Air Jordan line, but have a very special place in history and are a solid edition to anybody’s sneaker rotation.
(In case you need a reminder, Jordan had the 14’s on feet when he locked up his 6th and final championship with the Chicago Bulls. That alone makes the 14’s classics, but its Ferrari inspired design doesn’t hurt either.)
With all that being said, JB has decided to pay homage to the 14 by giving the Jordan 1 a fusion treatment. There is arguably no sneaker in the world more iconic than the Jordan 1, and now you can get all of its greatness combined with the Jordan 14. The most noticeable Jordan 14 inspiration added to these 1’s is the rubber heel piece.
And what constitutes adding the “Retro 99” to end of the “Air Jordan 1” name? Well, the NBA 1998-1999 season was the year the JB 14’s came out…thus, “Jordan 1 Retro ‘99”.
