One of the toughest decisions you have had to make as a parent thus far is what sport to put your child in. With all of the many options and the countless factors that play into each of the options, this can truly be a daunting task. Oftentimes, especially if you or your spouse have never participated in a particular sport, you don’t know what you are getting your child into, let alone yourself, because after all, you are the one who is going to be paying for the activity and hauling them to and from practices and games.

All of the factors listed in this 1-5 scale are quantitative, so you still have to determine the qualitative factors for yourself, such as how much enjoyment you think your child will have in that particular sport.

Basketball, volleyball, baseball, and soccer are all in the middle of the scale, and typically have a similar time, cost, injury risk, and seasonal commitment.
Track and field, on the other hand, generally requires less of a time commitment and is lower in cost, so this might be a good sport to put your child in if they are involved in a number of other activities outside of sports. Help he or she lean in with a cool new pair of runners.
