Twenty years after its original release, the “Bugs Bunny” Air Jordan 8’s will be making a return very soon. Many fell in love with shoe while watching Michael Jordan lace up in them during the 1993 Bulls’ season, in which Michael would go on to win his third championship. However, perhaps the shoes are better known from their youthful nickname, the “Bugs Bunny” 8’s. So where does the “Bugs Bunny” name come from?
Michael Jordan had a slew of comical ads in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, featuring some very humorous characters such as Mars Blackmon, and yes, you guessed it, Bugs Bunny. In the commercial for the Air Jordan 8’s, Michael Jordan and the Wascally Wabbit himself team up with each other against Marvin the Martian and his gang of Air Jordan thieves. Although Michael was sporting the aqua color scheme of the Air Jordan 8’s, Bugs Bunny laced up in the white/true red color scheme, which is exactly why people started referring to them as the “Bugs Bunny” 8’s.
So if you are a fan of the Air Jordan 8 “Bugs Bunny”, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, April 20th.
