Pre-game mixes are not your average playlist. When it comes to pumping up your team, you need a list of tracks that will not only inspire them, but keep them focused before a big game. Plus, it doesn’t hurt if the songs have some swagger to get the fans involved as well. From old classics to new jams, here are a few of the tracks we prefer to warm-up to.
If your team will be hitting the hardwood for some layup drills and free throws before tip-off, you can’t go wrong with some o classics. Look no further than the Space Jam soundtrack for inspiration. If it’s good enough for Michael Jordan, it’s good enough for any basketball player. Hits like, “Fly Like an Eagle” are perfect for slower warm-up drills, while the “Space Jam” theme song is sure to win you a few nostalgia points from the crowd. Hit play on “That’s the Way (I Like It)” by the Spin Doctors and you’ve just become a fan favorite. Now go out there and crush the Monstars.
We might be old school, but who can argue with any of the songs on the original “Jock Jams” CD? Volume 1 features “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” and “Whoomp! (There it Is).” I don’t care what game you’re about to play, those songs were designed to pump you up and get you moving. To this day, you will still hear “Pump Up the Jam” by Techtronic blasting through the speakers at major arenas around the world. You can’t go wrong with these tracks on your playlist.
Despite our love for the old school anthems, there are many rap songs and R&B hits that have become staples on game-time playlists. Just make sure they are clean if you plan to blare them in the gymnasium or stadium.
One of the most quintessential songs of the moment is “All I do is Win” by DJ Khaled. This song sends a message to your opponent that you mean business, and has a great beat that will help motivate any athlete. The key to winning is a positive attitude and this song’s lyrics say it all for you.
We’re also partial to “Get Low” by Lil John. It has a very catchy sound and is the perfect mix of repetitive chorus and bumping beat. You’ll have people in the crowd singing along to this one.
Many athletes use music to help get them in the game before the clock starts. We’ve listed off some of our favorites, but the truth is, everyone prefers something different. Some athletes like low-key, mellow tracks to help them relax before a game, while others enjoy loud, aggressive music that gets their blood boiling. Also, fine-tune your playlist with the audience in mind. If it’s only for your earbuds, feel free to mix things up however you like, but if the playlist will be heard over the loudspeakers before a game, be conscious of who is listening.
No matter what, have fun and use the music to motivate your performance. It can be the difference between a mediocre performance and an inspired one.
