Originally released in 1993, the Air Jordan 9 is the only signature
Air Jordan shoe that Michael Jordan did not wear in a regular season
NBA game. Designed to be worn in the 93-94 season, Michael Jordan
suddenly retired from the game of basketball to pursue his other
childhood dream of playing professional baseball. Although he was no
longer on the hardwood, Nike launched the Air Jordan 9 as an honorary
silhouette to showcase his global impact on the game and culture.
Inspired by the Japanese flag and Jordan’s increasing global
popularity, the “rising sun” Jumpman logo is located on the heel. The
bottom sole of the shoe incorporates several words representing the
spirit of Michael Jordan in the various languages of the world. If you
missed out on grabbing a pair back in 1993 or this past year, the Air
Jordan 9 Retro “Cool Grey” reintroduces the classic model in sleek
grey tones. This Air Jordan 9 will make its way back to shelves on
December 15th, 2012.
