Back Again: Air Jordan 11 Retro “Playoffs”

1 187

The Air Jordan XI is the eleventh sneaker in the Air Jordan series. Initially released in 1996, the shoe will forever be remembered as the pair Jordan wore during his legendary comeback to professional basketball after an abrupt and short retirement. Jordan made the most of his comeback season leading the Chicago Bulls to an NBA record 72 regular season victories including an NBA Title and an MVP award.

The Air Jordan 11 Retro “Playoffs” was apart of their 1996 playoff  run when Jordan blatantly wore the prototype against the advice of many. Violating the NBA’s uniform policy, as players were required to wear only totally black shoes, he received a $5,000 fine, in which he happily paid.

Designed by the renowned Tinker Hatfield, designer of Jordans III through XV, XX, and XXIII, the shoe separated  it’s design from other Jordans with the patent leather wrapped upper and clear rubber outsole. The first retro was released in 2001 and again in 2010 apart of the countdown package.

The infamous sneaker is set to release for the 4th time December 21, 2012.
